About ICAST

The CSIR-NAL Library and Information Centre (ICAST), was established in the year 1959 to cater to the information needs of the institute scientists and technologists and evolve as a national center for Aerospace Information. Eventually, the library has been recognized as the National Information Centre for Aerospace Science and Technology (ICAST) in 1975 by the National Information System for Science and Technology (NISSAT/DSIR), UNESCO, and AR&DB. ICAST is well known for its aerospace collections of books, journals, and specifically technical reports from NASA, DLR, ONERA, NLR, ARL, and UTIAS. The centre offers access to wideband e-resources from reputed STM publishers, to name few AIAA, IOP, ASME, SpringerNature, T&F. Remotexs powered Off-Campus service has empowered the user community to access all subscribed digital resources from anywhere  & anytime (24X7)

The robust information retrieval platforms such as Shodpavan a discovery platform, Online Public access Catalogue, Union Catalogue of Serials held by CSIR/ Aerospace Libraries are enabling users to get the right information at right time. ICAST is focusing on digital archiving of internally generated scholarly information and technical grey literature by establishing several digital repositories, NAL-IR an Open Access Institutional Repository (IR), SPORTS a student project reports repository, PRAKAS intranet-based technical grey literature capturing system, SysEng repository a project-oriented digital archive. Recently NAL has implemented a scientist profiling service to capture scholarly publication metrics and other scientific credentials of NAL scientists & technologists using the IRINS platform of INFLIBNET.

Sub-Library

This sub-library housed in Nilakantan Wind Tunnel Campus provides immediate reference, reading and counter transaction facilities for divisions like Experimental Aerodynamics, Computational and Theoretical Fluid Dynamics, Acoustic Test Facility, National Trisonic Aerodynamic Facilities, Propulsion, Centre for Civil Aviation Design and Development, CSIR Fourth Paradigm Institute (Formerly CSIR Centre for Mathematical Modeling and Computer Simulation), Flight Experiments etc.,
